The actress shared a pic from a previous photoshoot and captioned it:

I’m just going to pin these up all over my house as a reminder not to overeat on Thursday #thanksgivingprep

The post sparked a heavy debate in the comments section with loads of people slamming Gellar for promoting a negative body image.

“Your impressionable following doesn’t need to be influenced by what could be a toxic mindset or trigger. You may be able to happily live this way, others don’t have the luxury,” one critic wrote.

“Please consider rewording this, there’s nothing wrong with eating or being something other than skinny,” one person wrote, before adding: “And this post is a great way to trigger people’s eating disorders.”

Another commenter wrote: “I think she’s great and obviously very beautiful but the caption was pretty sad and disappointing but that’s just my opinion.”

“Hey @sarahmgellar I freakin love you, but this messaging (esp for young vulnerable girls) is crap,” wrote another, with another writing: “If you don’t see the affect this caption could have on young girls then you’ve clearly never experienced an eating disorder and I hope you or someone you love never have to.”

One critic told the star that her wording might be damaging for people with body issues: “The caption is really damaging to people with eating disorders or body dysmorphia. I urge you to edit your caption to something less harmful.”

“Wow @Sarahmgellar first time I’ve ever been disappointed with one of your posts. Very dangerous and insensitive wording here.”

There were, however, a bunch of fans who came to Gellar’s defence in the matter.

“She just wanted to post pics of herself looking hot. And threw that message in so it would seem connected to turkey day. She looks great! Who cares what she eats. Not your concern!” Wrote one fan.

“She didnt say to starve yourself but way to be dramatic about it,” wrote another.

One fan pointed out that overindulging can also be damaging for your health.

“Carelessly overeating is a far FAR bigger health problem in America than deliberately under-eating. And I’m sure SMG didn’t get that bod by dieting alone. She exercises.”
