Sydney Is Set To Be Hit With A “Rain Bomb” This Week, So I Hope You Brought Yr Snorkel

mean girls rain

Brace yourselves for some truly fucked weather all across Australia’s east coast over the next few days because it’s about to get crazy.

Southeastern Australia is about to cop the heaviest rainfall we’ve seen in three months, with a “rain bomb” set to ravage Sydney over the coming days.

We were lucky enough to see the precisely 30 seconds of sun over the weekend, but kiss your hopes of a tan goodbye because it’s about to get cold in ‘ere.

cold weather bring it on

A cold front is moving up the NSW coast, where it’s set to bucket down the heaviest rainfall we’ve seen in three months. So, I hope you packed your umbrella.

A spokeswoman for the Bureau of Meteorology told press that “it will be a bit wet, and a little windy,” which seems like a light way to describe up to 100mm of rain.

According to Sky News Weather, Newcastle and surrounding areas are set to cop the worst of it, with about 100mm predicted. The rest of the NSW coast won’t cop it quite as bad, with about 50mm set to hit the rest of the coast.

Sydney’s warm morning of up to 30 degrees in some areas is screeching to a halt this afternoon, dropping by seven degrees in less than an hour. The torrential rain is predicted to begin this afternoon and continue throughout the night starting in the south west.

But the worst of the storm isn’t expected to hit until tomorrow, with Sydney’s “rain bomb” expected to hit at some point on Tuesday.

“Sydney could be seeing up to 45mm of rain and Newcastle could be seeing up to 60mm rain from this event,” Sky News Weather presenter Rachel Raez said.

A strong wind warning is currently in place for the southeast coast of NSW, which has been escalated to a gale force wind warning for the Macquarie, Hunter and Sydney Coasts on Tuesday.

According to the Bureau of Meteorology, the rain and wind is set to stick around until at least Thursday, but we should see a bit of relief on Friday before a rainy weekend.

Despite the literal rain bomb, fires continue to ravage the state, with a severe fire danger warning being issued for the Hunter region on Monday afternoon.

Between torrential rain and fire danger, NSW is copping a beating with this week’s weather. Stay safe and be on alert for weather warnings throughout the week.
