The opposition to Trump
has been doing their absolute darndest to identify strong links between the Don and Russia
– to little avail. Even the much-hailed intelligence report from last week read like a school assignment you start at 11:50pm the night prior and really didn't prove any concrete
connections between Russian intelligence and Trump's win.
Besides, as many people have pointed out: even if Russian intelligence was behind the DNC email leaks – a strong possibility – they didn't force the Hillary Clinton's campaign into making the utterly moronic decision to focus very little campaigning strength into the Midwest, which contains traditionally Democratic strongholds who went big for Trump in November.
Now there's a new, totally unverified intelligence report being passed around in the world media – first at Buzzfeed, then at The Guardian, which purports to show that Russia has cultivated Trump over a number of years, hoping to drive a wedge between Western nations.
With regards to the veracity of this report, which allegedly comes from a former British intelligence officer who now works privately, who came to this information while doing opposition research for an unnamed Trump opponent. The Guardian writes:
The Guardian has not been able to confirm the veracity of the documents’ contents, and the Trump team has consistently denied any hidden contacts with the Russian government.
But an official in the US administration who spoke to the Guardian described the source who wrote the intelligence report as consistently reliable, meticulous and well-informed, with a reputation for having extensive Russian contacts.
So. With that in mind, please read the bit that everyone is going completely insane about right now:
Mmm. According to this report, the FSB (Russian intelligence) have been exploiting Trump's 'perversion' – in this case, his penchant for hiring sex workers to do golden shower shows for him. In a bed that he knew Obama had slept in. I'd believe it purely on its own merit, but obviously actual confirmation is scarce.
Obviously, everyone went mad immediately.
Ten days before the inauguration, and this is where we're at. Completely unverifiable intelligence leaks about a heady mix of treason, international political intrigue, and piss. For the record, the way more credible stuff that came out during the election campaign about him sexually assaulting people was significantly more damning than this.
I'd err on the side of not believing this one, until we have more info. Buzzfeed editor Ben Smith put out an internal staff email which claimed that readers can make up their own minds based on the info provided, which is a bit rich given that nobody has any info, and this is the first we've ever heard of this completely unverified report.
For the record, Trump has issued a vague statement which is definitely about the pee thing.
