‘Halloween’ Copped The Biggest Horror Opening Ever With A Female Lead

Halloween (2018)

Halloween has made a whopping $77.5 million USD in its opening weekend across North America and though that’s certainly not the highest debut performance ever, the film has still spectacularly stabbed written itself into the history books.

Halloween is the direct sequel to John Carpenter‘s 1978 slasher flick of the same name, this time by David Gordon GreenJamie Lee Curtis reprises the role of now-badass granny Laurie Strode as she goes face to face with Michael Myers 40 years after the nauseous killing spree in the first film.

This is actually the 11th instalment in the horror series and Curtis’ fifth as the babysitter turned gun-wielding grandmama who now has an insanely geared up home to DESTROY Myers.

Speaking of the man, Nick Castle returns to walk stoically with a knife as the mass murderer.

Great stuff.

The excellent Judy Greer, Andi Matichak, Will Patton, and Virginia Gardner co-star.

According to the Box Office stats, via VarietyHalloween scored Curtis her highest opening ever to date, it’s also the highest horror opening ever with a female lead, and it’s the biggest opening ever for a movie with a female lead over the age of 55.

Pow, pow, POW.

Oh, and it’s also the second-best October opening right after Venom which is sitting on an easy $80 million USD.

Halloween will scare ya shitless in Aussie cinemas come October 25.

Stressful trailer, very stressful trailer.

In the meantime, I very much recommend watching Netflix‘s Haunting of Hill House series to get you in the spooky mood. Some people have found it completely terrifying, others are ‘meh’ about it, and a whole bunch are right in the middle. I, personally, was thoroughly freaked out and had to watch it in the daylight hours.

There are even a bunch of ghosts hidden throughout the series, just staring at you waiting to make eye contact. It’s a laff.

You can catch all ten episodes of Hill House on Netflix now.
