Friends of Pete Davidson have spoken to the press to give an update on how he’s doing in the wake of his high-profile breakup with Ariana Grande, saying that he appears to be in good spirits but is still holding out hope that the pair might reconcile.

Speaking with the New York Post‘s Page Six, an unnamed associate of the 24-year-old’s said “I talked to Pete a few days ago and he was joking again. He’s still in love with Ariana and sees a future with her,” while adding “he knows [the breakup] is for the best.”

The pair got engaged in June of this year, quickly moving in together and adopting a pet pig named Piggy Smallz, but soon after he was seen with one of his distinctive Ariana tattoos covered up, word came that their relationship was over.

According to reports in E! News, Ariana is getting over Pete Davidson by “burying herself in work.” A friend of hers told the publication that “ever since Mac [Miller] passed, she has been avoiding the [grieving] process and has been trying to keep herself insanely busy.”

She has reportedly been “in close contact with her family and they are keeping an eye on her and supporting her” – including brother Frankie Grande, who sent her a message of support after the breakup – and they have urged her to “really relax and take time for herself.”

Saturday Night Live, which includes Davidson as a main cast member, returns on November 3, with host Jonah Hill and musical guest Maggie Rogers.
